Function and Application of Lubiprostone
Lubiprostone is available in oral capsule form, with dosages of 24 mcg twice daily for chronic idiopathic constipation and opioid-induced constipation, and 8 mcg twice daily for IBS-C in women. The capsules should be taken with food and water, and the drug is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
