DL-Mandelic Acid is an aromatic alpha hydroxy acid with the molecular formula C8H8O3.
It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It is a useful precursor to various drugs. Since the molecule is chiral, it exists in either of two enantiomers as well as the racemic mixture, known as paramandelic acid. Mandelic Acid is a colorless chemical, flake or powder solid, light color, slight odor. Soluble in hot water .
In the pharmaceutical industry can be used for intermediate methyl benzoylformate, cefamandole, vasodilator Cyclandelate, eyedrops Hydrobenzole, cylert etc, also can be used as a preservative. Function
Mandelic acid has a long history of use in the medical community as an antibacterial, particularly in the treatment of urinary tract infections, and as a component of 'chemical face peels', along with other alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). The cyclandelate and homatropine are esters of mandelic acid.
Application
1.In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used as an intermediate in cefotaxazole, vasodilator ring mandelate, eye drops oxybenzazole, pimoline, etc, and can also be used as a preservative.
